favorite item or category?

For most folks, the simple key strokes of Control + F, (hold the Control key down and then hit the F key), will bring up a Find Box.   Type in the subject desired and search.  Try searching under two or more variations of a theme if logic dictates.  For example, you may find Railroad items under locomotive, train or railroad.  You may find topics such as famous persons or American Indians, under a variety of categories.  Thus, searches are especially valuable when your topic is people oriented.

Sale List
List Updated May 29, 2008

Please Note: All mintage figures and "list prices" on bars are taken from An Indexed Guide Book of Silver Art Bars - 5th edition or the supplemental 6th edition  (available from us at the end of this page).  Most bars have a listing number which can be found in parenthesis, followed by the number minted (when known) and the list price (when given).  Other mintages are taken from the those noted on the actual item, Franklin Mint Almanac -- Numismatic Issues of the Franklin Mint, The Dealer's Guide To Franklin Mint Issues, Numismatic Issues of the Franklin Mint (various editions), and accompanying literature supplied with some issues.  Actual mintage may vary depending on the reliability of the reporting entity and differences between maximum mintages announced vs. actual production based on demand (usually less than anticipated).  FM = Franklin Mint.  Any item referred to as a "bar" or "round" is 1 oz. .999 silver unless otherwise noted.   The terms "ingot" and "bar" are used interchangeably as are "round," "medal," and "medallion."  Please see our policy on toned or tarnished items, treatment of original boxes, encapsulation services, etc. at the end of this list.

Just a sample of what the copper issues look like

"Numistamp" plaques for all coin types from half-cents through gold!  Includes all denominations/types in existence through 1978 such as the clad Kennedy half dollars, Ike dollars and Bicentennial types.  These were designed by and minted for the late Mort Reed.  Mort was a world renowned illustrator and columnist for Coin World for many years and wrote several books including the highly acclaimed Odd And Curious.  For those who were not around during the 1960s-70s when Reed was most active, his work in Coin World was often similar to Ripley's Believe It Or Not, the popular syndicated series seen in the national media.   In the 1970s he created the Numistamp series of United States coins reproduced on 2-1/4x1-3/8" plaques that looked like large medallic stamps.  The composition of those plaques reflected the coins they bore so that Large cents were produced in copper while the nickel issues were stuck in nickel or a nickel-like material, (the War nickels in silver-like material), etc.  These plaques are rarely seen today and represent a beautiful addition to anybody's collection who enjoys older numismatic memorabilia or anything related to the series they collect.  We still have most types/denominations in stock at  $24.95 for each plaque.  Check to see if we still have what you need.

Freemason - John Cabell Breckinridge. This medal was minted by the authority of the International Fraternal Commemorative Society, founded in 1966 by a group of Midwestern Masons.  It was struck by the prestigious Franklin Mint in 1967 in a minuscule mintage of just 1,293 pieces.  Many of these pieces, like many other coins and medals minted in this era, experienced severe withdrawal from the collector market into the melting pots during the "great silver melts" of the late 1970s and 1980s (caused primarily by the run-up of silver prices by the Hunt brothers).  It is 39 mm in diameter and made of solid sterling silver -- larger than an old US silver dollar!  The medal's low mintage, the effects of the silver melts and the popularity of the subject matter makes this one extremely collectable and an interesting addition to any Freemasonry collection. The medal offered here is in what I'd call Proof-64 to Proof-65 condition with some very minor abrasions.  Sold

Keep On Trucking Produced in 1973 by the short-lived Mother Lode Mint, this is one of a number of silver ingots they struck to commemorating a variety of mostly mundane subjects and events.  Mother Lode's bars are best characterized as crude, yet they exhibit a charm not often found on professionally engraved and manufactured bars and medals.  While the subjects covered by ML were almost always uneventful, now over 30 years after their minting, they offer an interesting retrospective of one part of the silver bar craze of the early to mid 1970s.  In this era dozens of small short-lived Mints sprung up to offer bars that were often a reflection of tastes of the man-on-the-street who decided to design and manufacture a silver bar.  The more professional minting operations were more concerned with historical content and artistic quality but they rarely captured the essence of everyday life or strayed into the arena of political satire like the smaller operators did.  The bars of the early 1970s offer a window into the past leading directly onto the street rather than the more professionally glossed over and politically correct emissions of the more professional outfits.   The bar offered here memorializes the catch-phrase "Keep On Trucking" which was popularized by underground cartoonist Robert "R Crumb" [Fritz the Cat, Mr. Natural, etc.] in the 1960s and meant something like "go for it."   The ingot contains one-ounce of pure .999 silver and is listed in the 1991 5th edition of An Indexed Guide Book of Silver Art Bars as MLM-5.  $27.99

The Medallic History Of Pharmacy. The Medical Heritage Society sponsored this series of 36 -- 39 mm sterling silver medals to record the history of pharmacy.  The significant persons and events commemorated were picked by a distinguished advisory board (listed on the inside of the album).   It was offered only to health professionals plus established collectors in the Medical Heritage Society by subscription from 1970 through 1972.  The mintage of this set is a miniscule 711 of which we can assume many were melted during the great silver melts of the late 1970s/early 1980s.  We'd bet there aren't more than 300 sets extant -- if that many.  Of those, we wonder how many are truly nice.  This set it in beautiful condition; the medals  flawless and original and the textured bluish-gray album, tight with no stains, tears, corner bumps, etc.!  The individual "dansco-type" pages inside that hold the medals are also flawless as if they were made yesterday.  The accompanying 40 page descriptive booklet is not only still with the set but in Mint condition!  It's as if the set sat for 30+ years without being picked up and examined more than a half dozen times.   Amazingly, nearly every medal is virtually 100% "bright white" (as numismatists refer to untarnished silver), while the few that are toned exhibit little more than hints of beautiful golden toning around their periphery.  Our guess is that these medals were probably kept in their original shipping covers without ever seeing the light of day until being assembled into the album perhaps sometime in the last decade.   We have no other explanation for the immaculate undipped state of preservation that these medals are in.  Most silver sets this old have toned much deeper with a rainbow of colors (which, of course, many of us also appreciate -- but, who doesn't appreciate a nice original "bright-white" set?).  Most collectors have never seen one of these sets and never will -- in any condition!  This the the cream of the crop in rarity and condition!  There may not be a finer set out there!  Sold Out

The Medallic History Of Medicine
60 Piece Proof Set Silver Medals

Here is one page of seven in the album.  You get the entire album.

This beautiful set of 60 sterling silver medals is listed in Krause Publications 1981 Guidebook Of Franklin Mint Issues as made for the Medical Heritage Society in a mintage of just 1,386 sets in sterling silver!  Due to the silver melts of yesteryear, possibly less than half of these sets exist today!  It was issued as a set by subscription to members of The Medical Heritage Society with the individual coins sent one per month to subscribers from 1969 into 1972.  For sake of accuracy we note that the set in not 100% flawless. The last page in the book was damaged and then crudely repaired with clear tape.  It appears that a previous owner attempted to clean the tarnish off of a few of the medals  within that back page (unfortunate since many collectors appreciate the vintage appearance of original toning on older items like this) resulting in some hairlines on perhaps five or six of the medals within that page of the album.  All other medals appear flawless with original toning ranging from light to moderate and the pages undamaged. (The cloudiness seen on the medals above is due to the scanning process which actually magnifies very light oxidation on coin surfaces that is virtually invisible to the naked eye [and normal to coins] - most of those medals appear almost "bright-white")  Note:  the medals in this set offered individually could fetch double the asking price here! Add this one to your collection today!  The marketing of this collector's set of medals was aimed at coin collectors; the result was that they (like so many other ingots and coins) experienced severe withdrawal from the collector market into the melting pots during the "great silver melts" of the late 1970s and 1980s (caused primarily by the run up of silver prices by the Hunt brothers).  The sets original low mintage, the effects of the silver melts and the popularity of the subject matter makes this one extremely collectable and an interesting addition to any collection.  $1535.00

Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity "Coin" 1 oz Pure Silver 39 mm medal.  This is a flawless fraternity medal made for Pi Kappa Phi and features the Athletics - Academics - Service & Leadership Reverse.  This is a unique memento to anybody who collects Pi Kappa Phi items! $34.95

Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity "Coin" 1 oz Pure Silver  w/ "The New Millennium" reverse, 39 mm medal. RARE! Mintage Only 50! This is a flawless fraternity medal made for Pi Kappa Phi.  Probably the most interesting aspect about it is that it is a "mule."   A "mule" is a coin (or medal) that is struck with mismatched dies that were not intended to be paired together.  In this case a trial run of a few in silver and bronze were made before it was noticed that the reverse die paired with this obverse (front side) was different than what was intended. Only 50 were made in silver and 100 in bronze before the mistake was caught.  Along with many other interesting and rare items of various sorts that we purchased from the Mint that made these, was the entire run of these "mules" -- which we will offer on eBay and on our website until they are gone. This is a unique and rare memento to anybody who collects Pi Kappa Phi items! $36.00

National Silver Dollar Roundtable. Club's logo superimposed over an attractive rendition of the 1878 Morgan Dollar obverse. The reverse spells out the organizations name and date of founding.  This medal was produced for the group a number of years ago by Silvertowne and is seldom seen today. This is a flawless "cameo" proof-like strike; the backgrounds are perfect reflective "blazing-mirrors" (which show up jet-black in scans) and the designs are frosty white (which, of course show up white in scans).  The contrast between the mirror-like backgrounds and designs is stunning! It weighs one-ounce, is struck in .999 pure silver and measures 39 mm $27.99
