This is one of the rarest medals or "challenge coins" (if you prefer to call it that) made during the 1991 Gulf War. It was produced by a Minting authority for sale at a Reno coin show they attended, in a mintage of only 500 pieces. According to a published report by TMC in their May/June 1991 issue of their newsletter, A Closer Look ...
"attendance at the show wasn't much so we only sold about 300 pieces. We later realized, that with a total mintage of only 500 pieces, this had to be the rarest collectible of the Desert Shield - Desert Storm Gulf War!"
They then offered the balance of pieces to dealers on their mailing list.
We of course, purchased a number of them for stock and then put them away.
We recently dug deep into our vault and pulled some of our Desert Storm
memorabilia out for sale including a few of these medals. Once many of the
scarcer items like this one are gone they will be very difficult to locate
again. This one may be the toughest due to it's extremely low mintage! It
is a unique memento to anybody who served in the Gulf War or for the collector
of military memorabilia.

Pure Silver This gamblers coin depicts one of the ever-popular "Art Deco" designs seen in many variations in the United States and abroad, on ash trays, shallow bowls, and tokens issued in a legal gambling district of California back in the late 1940s through early 1950s. The ash trays are thought to date from about the 1920s through possibly as late as the 1940s (See a couple of those ashtrays here). The design was known to have been coined into an aluminum token that was given away at the door of the Colony Club Burlesque show located in Gardena, CA -- a Los Angeles area city where card clubs were legal.
